Air Medical Transport Service
In collaboration with the Department of Health and Wellness (Emergency Health Services – EHS), LifeFlight added a second fixed-wing aircraft in 2023 for long-distance interfacility transports, also known as the Air Medical Transport Service (AMTS).
Patients are cared for by EHS paramedics and the AMTS can accommodate multiple patients at a time who require transfer to or from their hospital for routine testing, procedures or admissions. The number of flights per day is based on demand and location. EHS Ground crews transport patients between the healthcare facility and the airport as required.
With the capacity to transport multiple patients at a time using a fixed-wing aircraft, AMTS saves ground ambulance hours, alleviating pressure on our healthcare system. This service also reduces out-of-hospital time for patients, improving their comfort and overall experience.
